Overview

Nik Erik Neubauer (1994) is a visual artist and photographer from Ljubljana, Slovenia. In his work, he uses a contemporary documentary approach to deal with intimate social issues of the quotidian. He graduated from photography on VIST – Department for photography (2017) and got his master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (2021). He won numerous awards at Rovinj Photodays (2018, 2020). In 2021, he was nominated for Leica Oscar Barnack Newcomer Award. In the same year, Fresh Eyes, an annual publication powered by GUP Magazine, selected him as one of the greatest emerging photographers in Europe. In the same year, he received the Watchdog award for outstanding achievements in photojournalism.  In 2023, he was nominated for the OHO award, the main Slovenian award for young visual artists.

His book, You Always Cry Twice When You Go to the South, was selected as the best book of the 2022 Belfast Photo Festival. His second book, Where's the Afters?, published by the Museum of Contemporary History, was shortlisted at Les Rencontres d'Arles in 2023.
