NEW REPRESENTATION: BLAŽ ROJS
-
we are proud to present THE WORKS OF Blaž Rojs, a newly represented artist
-
Blaž Rojs is an artist who always creates multiple layers - literally and figuratively. Formally educated in graphic design, he finished his graduate studies in 2020 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana with a summa cum laude awarded thesis "Intervention in Photography". What began as an exploration of the possibilities of combining different mediums, developed into a detailed and precise practice of combining polaroids, acrylic paint, epoxy glass, textile and other materials into works that transcend a single definition.
-
Of his process, Rojs stated "I was interested in what intervention does to photography in the sense of changing the visual effect, the form as well as the meaning. I tried to answer the question of whether the final work tells us more about the photographed subject / object than its original does, or does it show us the author's perception of the photographed subject / object".
-
The subject the artist explores most in his works is intimacy - through intensely personal portraits of nude female bodies, he tries to establish a relationship between subject and medium. The connection to the women portrayed is in his intervention to the work - the gestural interventions, layers of material that uncover or hide certain details, even introducing his own imagined language that enables only him to truly understand his view of the work. His artworks are a mixture of visible and invisible vulnerability, exposing the intimate details of the subject but through a personal approach to the works, also of the artist.
