On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Galerija Fotografija gallery, we will present a cross-section of the programme we have been running since the gallery's foundation at photo basel 2024. The gallery's artists represent different photographic generations and orientations. For this reason, we wish to showcase the creative array of our gallery’s programme at the upcoming edition of one of the most important fairs for lens-based art in the world.

Hokkaido #5, 2018Tereza Kozinc (1985) finished her studies at the Institute and Academy for Multimedia in Ljubljana. At the heart of her work is the search for and questioning of a utopian home, emotionally as well as geographically. The Guardian chose her photograph as one of the best works presented at Photo Basel 2023, and in the same year the artist's photography book 7AM was published by the French publishing house IIKKI, in which she and the co-author, Klavdij Sluban, present work dedicated to their son.At photo basel 2024, Kozinc is nominated for the Maurice de Mauriac x photo basel award and has been highlighted as “annabelle’s choice” by the annabelle magazine. -

Rhino 10, 2021Matjaž Krivic (1972) is a documentary photographer who is capturing the stories of places in development, in actuality rich with tradition and religious heritage. He documents important social events all over the globe, mainly regarding topics of ecology, globalisation and social inequality. He photographs in an intense, personal and aesthetically moving style that has won him several prestigious awards, such as second place at the prestigious World Press Photo, the overall winner at Travel Photographer of The Year awards in UK, 1st place at Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest in the People Category in USA, numerous Slovenia Press Photo awards, 1st place at Travel Photographer of the Year awards in the category Amazing Places in UK in 2010, winner of Geographical Photographer of the Year in the category Landscape and Judges Favourite Award at the Travel Photographer of the Year competition in UK in 2003, 1st place at the Geographical Photographer of the Year competition in UK in 2002.His documentary photographs were exhibited in Slovenia (Cankarjev dom, Galerija Fotografija, Kibla portal) as well as abroad (Paris, Sydney, Moscow, New York, Vienna, London, Rotherdam, Amsterdam, Tbilisy, Dortmund, La Gassily, Athenes, Tunis, Le Mans...). -

Ana Zibelnik
Soča, 2021Ana Zibelnik (1995) is an artist based in The Hague, Netherlands. She holds a BA in Visual Communication from the University of Ljubljana and an MA in Film and Photographic Studies from Leiden University. In her latest work, she delves into the relationship between photography and extinction, questioning the role of the medium – defined by its ability to record – in times of ecological instability, and combines a research based approach with poetic interpretation, often drawing inspiration from literature.She works as a freelance curator and editor for the Dutch cultural producer Paradox. Together with Jakob Ganslmeier, they are the winners of this year’s edition of Kranj Foto Fest 2024. This year, their exhibition GIGA was on view at FOAM in Amsterdam. -

Hannah Schemel
Kigen #114, 2021Hannah Schemel (1994) studied communication design at the University of Mannheim and is currently finishing her MA in Milan, Italy. In her photography practice, Schemel focuses on the passing of time and its interaction with subjects from the natural world, such as the sea, the sky and the forest. She has been developing two long-term projects, kigen (the origin) and umi (the sea), in which she traces the origin of places either through provenance in the Black Forest or the sea of Quiberon. The photographer works with an analogue large format camera and creates her photographs using hand-made paper especially developed for her, into which she lets her motives sink using a platinum-palladium mixture technique.In 2020, Schemel won the advancement award for photography of the Heinrich-Vetter foundation and the city Mannheim. -

Deklica s Haloz / Girl from Haloze, 1972Stojan Kerbler (1938) has received several awards for his work in photography, among them the prestigious award of the Prešeren foundation in 1979 and an award for the highest achievement in art by the president of Slovenia, a total of 500 awards and prizes of which 120 were at international exhibitions. His works have been presented at more than 100 solo exhibitions in Slovenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Soviet Union, Spain, USA and Yugoslavia. In 2018 he exhibited in Ljubljana's Museum of Modern Art with a large retrospective exhibition. An overview catalogue was released along with the exhibition. In 2020, he received the Grand Prešeren award, the highest decoration in the field of artistic creation in Slovenia, for life work in art. His work is included in several permanent museum and gallery collections, among them Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana; Collection of the International Association for Photographic Art FIAP, Gent, Belgium; Collection of the American Association for Photographic Art PSA, Darien, USA; Collection of the Photographic Association, Warsaw, Poland; Historical Collection FIAP, Reims, France; French Photographic Museum, Paris, France; Collection William Messer, USA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade, Serbia. -

Marc Riboud
Grčija (iz zbirke Collection Clémencea Ribouda) / Grčija (iz zbirke Collection Clémencea Ribouda) / Greece (Collection Clémence Riboud), 1973Marc Riboud (1923–2016) joined the Magnum agency in 1951. Between 1955 and 1968 Riboud travelled the globe: he went to the Near and Far East, to Nepal, China, the Soviet Union, Alaska, Mexico, Africa, North and South Vietnam, Cambodia, Poland and Czechoslovakia. Riboud did not refer to himself as a photojournalist, but as a documentary photographer, and his visits to the many countries he travelled and documented were never limited to his specific assignment.Marc Riboud is the recipient of the Leica Lifetime Achievement Award (2001). His works are found in many permanent collections, among them the MOMA New York, The Metropolitan Museum, New York, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Musee de Mexico and others. Also impressive is his bibliography, which includes twenty published monographs. Galerija Fotografija organised his first exhibition in Slovenia in 2010, and then again together with Galerija Jakopič in 2018. After the artist’s death in 2016, we collaborate with his heirs. -
