The 3rd workshop, for which Simon Chang is cooperating with Galerija Fotografija in Ljubljana, Slovenia, introduces One-on-one mentorship / workshop with Simon Chang (2022–2023). Its main aim is to encourage you to develop your personal or editorial projects with the Taiwanese photographer Simon Chang over the course of 6 months.
One-on-one mentorship / workshop with Simon Chang (2022–2023) contains 6 one-on-one sessions (1-hour personal photographic coaching sessions with Simon Chang over the course of 6 months) together with at least 2 group workshops (an introduction workshop between November and December 2022 and a final group workshop and pitching panel in May 2023).
Considering the main aim of the workshop this time, we strongly encourage you to take the next step in your own journey through photography by preparing for a pitching panel at the end of the workshop in May 2023, where you will have the opportunity to present your work to a group of industry experts (curators, publishers and photographers presented by Galerija Fotografija) and receive inspiring feedback.
This is a mentorship geared toward both emerging and professional photographers looking to complete a body of work and prepare it for a variety of distribution outlets. Over 6 months of the long-term mentorship, you will have a great opportunity to receive feedback not only from Simon but also some guest experts, receive guidance on your theoretical and aesthetic interests, hear advice on editing and sequencing and engage in new approaches out of your routine or comfort zone.
The workshop offers
- Completing a body of work and prepare it for a variety of distribution opportunities,
- Receiving guidance on your theoretical and aesthetic interests from Simon Chang in person and other local industry experts,
- The creation of a supportive peer network that is often lacking when working solo as a photographer; on previous workshops we have been delighted to see that these peer networks continue to support each other long after the workshops have finished,
- A personal approach by the mentor Simon Chang, enabling him to understand your challenges, ambitions and motivations, and to guide your work and make suggestions for the presentation and output,
- Presenting your work to a group of industry experts and receiving practical and inspiring feedback.
Schedule
The group will participate in an introductory workshop between November and December 2022, where each participant will have an opportunity to introduce their project and discuss their goals for the mentorship.
From November 2022 through April 2023 each participant will receive 6 individual one-on-one sessions with Simon Chang upon mutual agreement and opportunities to meet with the group at Galerija Fotografija.
The final group workshop in May 2023 will include a pitching panel with external guest experts offering feedback on the completed projects.

- each participant will receive 6 individual lessons and 3 group meetings
- the price of the program is 480 euros (early registrations 430 euros, untill 20.10.2022). VAT is included in the price.
- at full price we offer payment in up to three installments
- we offer participants of previous workshops in the gallery a 10% discount (discounts are not culmulative)
- online participation is also possible (if you may be staying abroad for a longer period of time)
- BONUS: during the duration of the program, the gallery offers workshop participants a 10% discount on purchases in the gallery bookstore (applies only to books).
