Drag is not just a performance, drag is resistance, identity and community. Since 2021, documentary photographer Simon Chang has been documenting the lives and performances of drag queens in Slovenia, on and off stage. His project Drag Queens was created during the pandemic and in an atmosphere of social unrest, when drag performances became increasingly political acts. The exhibition captures intimate and powerful moments: the glitter of costumes, the fragility of identity, tears that blend with make-up. At the heart of this story are people whose identities are often erased.
