Marc Riboud: A Wanderer’s Choice
Eight years ago, at the beginning of our collaboration with Marc Riboud, we presented works from two of his series. The first was a selection of his works from the series Huang Shan, Capital of Heaven, the second a selection of the author’s most well-known documentary black and white photographs. These included the image of a young girl who stood, a flower in hand, defying armed policemen at demonstrations against the war in Vietnam, images of China in the fifties, when Riboud was the first Western photographer to enter the Land of the Rising Sun after the end of World War II, and images of everyday life in India, Afghanistan and Cuba which are widely recognized. For the current exhibition, we collaborated with Marc’s wife Catherine and assistant Lorène Durret in an effort to present images which we have never exhibited before, next to the more well-known photographs such as the legendary Eiffel Tower Painter. All exhibited works are available for purchase, a common practice of Galerija Fotografija’s exhibitions, making it a wonderful opportunity for quality black and white photography enthusiasts. At the same time, Jakopič Gallery will prepare a careful selection of Marc Riboud’s photographs under the curatorship of Marija Skočir.
The exhibition will be opened by mr. Jean-Luc Goester, director of the French Institute of Ljubljana.
At 20h, you are kindly invited to attend the opening of a retrospective photography exhibition at Jakopič Gallery, titled Marc Riboud: Conscious Traveller. Concerned Photographer. The exhibition is curated by Marija Skočir. It will be opened by mag. Mateja Demšič, head of the Department for Culture of the City of Ljubljana.
