»Fotografij rojstnega Tajvana ne kažem prav pogosto. Skoraj nikoli. V Evropi živim že več kot 20 let. Prišel sem leta 2003. Tajvan je zame postal nekaj vmes; nekaj, česar ni več, a še ni povsem izginilo. Napol dom. Pogrešam ga na prav nepričakovane načine, sploh, ko zagledam morje. Takrat pride domotožje. Pa ne ravno po domačem kraju, ampak bolj po občutku. Po domu, ki ga ni. Ko gledam fotografije, ki sem jih posnel na Tajvanu, se mi zdi, da gledam prizore iz filma. So spomin in fikcija hkrati. Ne vem več, koliko so resnični. Vem le, da je polovica posledica hrepenenja …« – Simon Chang

ABOUT THE SERIES

"I don’t often share photographs of Taiwan—my homeland. In fact, I almost never do.

It’s been over twenty years since I lived there. I moved to Europe in 2003, and since then, Taiwan has become something in between: not fully here, not fully gone. A “1/2 Hometown.”

I miss it in quiet, unexpected ways—especially when I see the sea. That’s when the homesickness hits. Not always for a place, but for a feeling. For the version of home I’m not in.

When I look at the images I’ve taken of Taiwan over recent years, they feel almost like scenes from a movie—part memory, part fiction. I’m not sure how real they are anymore. All I know is, half of them come from longing..." – Simon Chang
