Sergio Scabar

Sergio Scabar (Ronchi dei Legionari, 1946–2019) became interested in photography in 1964. From 1966 to 1974, he occasionally took part in national and international competitions, using photography mainly for documentary and reportage purposes. Later, in the 1980s, his work underwent a fundamental change, as the human figure disappeared and his interest shifted to nature. In 1996, he began to use a unique technique of "alchemical" printing with silver salts in his series The Theatre of Things/Il Teatro delle cose.

Scabar exhibited in numerous private galleries and various institutions in Italy and abroad. In 2019, he presented his work in a retrospective exhibition entitled Oscura Camera (1969–2018) at the Attems Petzenstein Palace, the headquarters of the Gorizia Regional Museums. In 2003, he was awarded the Photography Prize of Friuli Venezia Giulia by the CRAF – Centre for Research and Archiving of Photographs in Spilimberg (Pordenone). His works are in the Punto Fermo contemporary art collection in San Vito al Tagliamento (Pordenone), the Pinacoteca collection of the Gorizia Regional Museums in the Attems Petzenstein Palace, the collection of the Isontina State Library in Gorizia, the photographic collection of the CRAF – Centre for Research and Archiving of Photographs in Spilimberg, the collections of the Pilon Gallery in Ajdovščina and of the Colonos Cultural Association in Villacaccia di Lestizza (Udine).
