Sibil Slejko, born in 1975, finished her studies at the Faculty of Education in the department of Art Education. Photography was a medium through which she was able to combine her great love of horses with that of art into unique photographic works of art, which exude the power and beauty of a horse’s basic nature. The large, expressive formats attract the viewer’s gaze.

» The dimensions of these works are expansive, and it is my opinion that only those come to life in all of their perfection. My features need to breathe and my energetic horses need room to showcase all of their strength and incredible energy. They want to take the viewer away for a moment. Frequently, unrest can be felt. The straight lines of the paper can barely hold together the energy and the power.  At some points everything is falling apart, yet at others, we feel a total tranquility, a calmness of the soul, which has no more need to hurry,« as the artist says.

Sibil developed a unique technique during her work, which merges elements of painting with those of photography. This gives her artworks even more expressive power, as well as an authorial mark.

She first presented herself to the public in October, 2001, in the gallery of Avgust Černigoj in Lipica, with an exhibition of black-and-white, unique photographs; a series called ‘’The Horse’s Overlooked Eye’’.

After 2002, the author started dedicating her artworks specifically to Lipizzaners, and thus two cycles of photographs were created in collaboration with the Lipica Stud Farm. This is also the place where the artist has her studio for developing artistic photography.

The last of the presented projects is called ‘’From the Soul of a Horse’’ and was developed in the photographic studio Ikon in Udine, Italy. Sibil photographed two Spanish horses, which further intensified the expressiveness of the photos with their temperamental blood.

Besides the status of the official photographer of Lipica Stud Farm (since 2002), the author is also working as a photographer and journalist at Revija o Konjih (since 2000), is collaborating with the Association of Lipizzaner Breeders in Slovenia, with the Association of Islandic Horses in Slovenia, the Slovenian Warmblood Association the Slovenian Quarter Horse Association.

She photographs horses for presentations online, on advertising boards (Renault 2003, realized by Luna/TBWA, communications company), in calendars, she leads photography workshops of photographing horses in Lipica Stud Farm, etc.
