“Distance Now (2002–2005) is an autobiographical piece of work dealing with the emotions and feelings experienced during the break-up of a relationship. The title refers to the psychological distance between my partner and I, both at the time of the breaking up and afterwards. Some of the photographs were taken during the separation whereas others are rather documents of my past life. Distance – referring to the physical distance between the two partners during a long distance relationship and now – referring to the time after the separation.

‘Distance Now’ refers to the illusion of love, emotional confusion, despair, fear and dependency.
Part of the images are staged selfcritical autoportraits that illustrate the despair one can feel when a relationship comes to an end. Others are my private archival images of past life, gaining a value only after time has passed. Often one can feel the future events that are about to take place.”
